With The Buffalo Bills season fittingly coming to an end at the same time as 2016, I decided to jot down a brief list of “Resolutions” that I would like to see this offseason.
1. Retain Anthony Lynn
Whether that is as a Head Coach or as an Offensive Coordinator, I believe that it is essential to retain Anthony Lynn. The Buffalo Bills can not afford to blow the entire team up and enter a rebuild. They had the #1 rushing attack in the league this year and thats something to build upon. I believe that the Buffalo Bills need to have some stability and I believe that it should be on the offensive side of the ball. Another year under the same system will only help the offense and (Tyrod Taylor) grow.
2. Exercise Option On Tyrod Taylor
This would bring his salary to about $15 Million (20th highest paid QB in 2017) and $16 Million in 2018 (17th highest paid QB in 2018). I know that this is the never ending debate but I truly believe The Bills should exercise his option. I 100% agree he needs improve as a passer. However, The Bills are a run first offense and I believe this philosophy can get us into the playoffs. Yes, if there was a “Franchise” Quarterback available who can sling the ball around and carry the bills on his shoulders and into the playoffs I would be on board with not resigning Tyrod. Unfortunately, those are pretty hard to find. “Game managers” have always been able to make their teams successful and I do not think that that term is a bad thing. The free agent quarterbacks are less than appetizing and the upcoming rookies do not seem pro ready enough to help The Bills end the playoff drought in 2017. Do I think he's a top QB in the league? No. But I do think he's good enough to bring a team to the playoffs and frankly, there are no other options.
3. Address the Secondary
The Buffalo Bills Secondary will be pretty thin this offseason. It does not seem likely that The Bills will resign Stephon Gilmore as he is seeking a big contract. Aaron Williams has been talking about retiring and the following “depth” players are set to hit free agency. James Ihedigbo, Robert Blanton, Corey White, Colt Anderson, Sergio Brown, and Jonathan Meeks. Look for The Bills to add depth in the secondary both in Free agency and in the Draft.
4. Resign Robert Woods
The Buffalo Bills already have an extremely thin group of Wide Receivers. They can’t afford to lose Bobby Woods as well. We saw how tough it was for the Bills to move the ball through the air without Sammy Watkins. This is arguably one of the most important position groups that the Bills need to address in the offseason. Robert Woods brings so much to this team, not only is he a solid #2 receiving option, he also is one of the better blocking WRs in the league. This is obviously a significant trait for their run first offense.
